Diary of the Bougie Broad

Life through the eyes of a young, quirky, intelligent, bougie broad.

Bougie.  Snobby.  Bratty.  Spoiled.  Uppity.  Pretentious.  Stuck up.  Snotty.  Self-centered.  Vain.  Conceited.  Sadiddy.  Bitchy.  Selfish.  Yes I have heard them all.  Do these words truly describe me? Not so much.  But either way, these words and many others, have shaped my thinking, how I see the world, and how I live my life.  My blog entries are not meant to be deep, educational, or life changing.  Rather just thought provoking.  I want to foster conversation (good or bad).  Thank you for gracing me with your presence (or should you be thanking me...hmmmm... just kidding!)

2007 BET Awards Show

Let me start off by saying I am not an awards show type of gal.  So it took a lot for me to just try to watch the BET Awards.  It also pains me to watch because I think that the BET network is a mockery of African-American culture.  So with that said, we will move right along…

I didn’t watch the whole show because Rob & Big came on MTV and they crack me up more than the foolishness taking place during the BET Awards!  But I did manage to catch a few snippets that made me shake my head, not in disgust, rather I thought, “why am I not surprised?”  So hear we go.

Mo’Nique: I love to see thick women represent but damn.  None of Mo’Nique’s outfits were flattering.  Thank goodness she is cute in the face other than that I really think she didn’t look as good as she could.  Her stylist should be fired.

Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland and Destiny’s Child (?): I think B looked fab in her golden getup.   I’m not a fan of “Get Me Bodied” and I was hoping she would do my fave, “Freakum Dress”, but her performance was good.  But I got really excited when Kelly came out; looking like a black Barbie… she looked great!  But then, yeah, she opened her mouth.  *SIGH* She sounded terrible.  Definitely not a good look to come out right after Beyoncé sounding like that.  Now, am I the only one who is a little nervous that Solange might be the new 4th member of Destiny’s Child?  I hope not.  Talk about a younger sibling trying to emulate their older sister.  Yikes.

Patti Patti:  I always expect odd fashion choices from her, but my word.  Her hair style was the same shape as her hideous green triangular dress.  I don’t think the dress moved or flowed at all.  It was like a triangular block attached to her body with a terrible neckline.  Another stylist needs to be fired.

50 Cent: I hate to say that his damn song “Amusement Park” is growing on me but, I mean it is catchy, right?  So I admit I started bobbing my head a little when the beat dropped.  But ummm did he forget the words or when to start rapping?  I was confused.  Then he went out into the audience and walked around looking at people.  I mean I wasn’t tripping because minus his face, he’s a nice piece of chocolate to stare at but it was weird.  His hype man was on stage shouting random snippets of the song.  I heard a rumor this morning that producers cut his mic off because he was cursing, which wouldn’t surprise me because I did hear a lot of bleeps.  Either way his performance was terrible too.

I’m sad that Robin Thicke didn’t win best Male R&B Artist.

Vivica Fox:  I don’t know what to say about her.  I just think she is tacky and she looks plastic.  You can be the judge.

Jennifer Hudson:  Am I the only one sick of her?  How is she going to win Best New Artist and not have an album out?  Can I be pissed that she didn’t thank God, her man who she brought up to the stage or her family?  Something about her… I feel like she is feeling herself way too much.  Is she forgetting that not so long ago so was an unknown on American Idol?  All in all, she looked aight but she could have used a pair of Spanx.  Her man could have stepped his game up a bit.

T.I.: So glad he won the award for Best Hip-Hop Artist and that he apologized for fighting.  Nice job.

Al Sharpton:  He has got to be the most oddly shaped man I have ever seen and he just has an awkward presence.

I heard that Public Enemy’s tribute to James Brown was great and Ciara, like always talked her whole way through her performance.  I have heard conflicting comments about the Jennifer Hudson and Jennifer Holiday performance.  So in all in all, from what I saw of the BET Awards show, I wasn’t impressed, as usual.

Hey chick! You are not the only one annoyed with j-Hud. I think she needed more than one pair of spanx! Tighten that ish up! OR wear a better fitting dress! goodness! I was so over her aftr I saw that flowery mess of a dress, then I heard she won without even having an album, LOL. i mean, good for her, she's a talented girl, but um, yes, invest in a few pairs of spanx thanks.
