Is a diet pill ever worth poo?

So would you take a pill that has disgusting side effects and is rather expensive?
I saw this pill at CVS this weekend and walked past the display and really thought nothing of it. I did notice the price tag was at least $50.
alli by GlaxoSmithKline, is a new weight loss drug that at one time was only available through prescription. alli is the only FDA-approved weight loss drug available over the counter. But get this, the website, www.myalli.com, states the following to be side effects:
- Gas with oily spotting
- Loose stools
- More frequent stools that may be hard to control
- “The excess fat that passes out of your body is not harmful. In fact, you may recognize it as something that looks like the oil on top of a pizza.”
Hmm? Could you imagine being out somewhere, like on a date, and having an uncontrollable bowel movement along with oily spotting lol? Good Lord. I am interested to see if this pill actually offers results and whether or not people are actually risking the side effects in hopes of losing weight. Before you say to yourself that these side effects are simply warnings that they have to disclose listen to this; about half of those who participated in the trial studies experienced gastrointestinal issues. Even I don’t think I could take something with disgusting side effects such as these (but I will admit that I am a bit intrigued, why, I don’t know lol).
I really can’t get over the “Gas with oily spotting”. That is so foul and quite frankly scares me a bit.
I wonder how long until someone has some life threatening illness associated with this drug.
