Diary of the Bougie Broad

Life through the eyes of a young, quirky, intelligent, bougie broad.

Bougie.  Snobby.  Bratty.  Spoiled.  Uppity.  Pretentious.  Stuck up.  Snotty.  Self-centered.  Vain.  Conceited.  Sadiddy.  Bitchy.  Selfish.  Yes I have heard them all.  Do these words truly describe me? Not so much.  But either way, these words and many others, have shaped my thinking, how I see the world, and how I live my life.  My blog entries are not meant to be deep, educational, or life changing.  Rather just thought provoking.  I want to foster conversation (good or bad).  Thank you for gracing me with your presence (or should you be thanking me...hmmmm... just kidding!)

War of the Online Dating Sites

I have always wondered how eHarmony truly matches people using some long a$$ personality profile.  Well a couple weeks ago I heard that the homosexual and bisexual community was upset with eHarmony because they were being rejected because of their sexual orientation.  eHarmony also rejects some heterosexual “applicants” as well.  Imagine going online in hopes of having more success in meeting people only to find out you are being rejected.  That’s deep.  I had a feeling it was only a matter of time until someone tried to take legal actions.  Well the Washington Post is reporting that a woman from California is now suing eHarmony because she was not able to search for a homosexual mate.

I learned this morning that the founder of eHarmony, Neil Clark Warren, has strong religious ties and is very conservative.  Hmm…suddenly this all clear.

Now part of me is upset because it is just wrong to mislead people.  The eHarmony commercials lead one to believe that they will help anyone find their soul mate.  But on the other hand, eHarmony is a private company and they are free to do as they please.  But for the sake of being a successful business, the more people you have signing up for your services, the more money you will make, right?  And I do feel their pain because for years African-Americans were excluded and still are excluded from all types of activities and services, so I don’t think this is right.  In this day and age I am actually shocked that this service is discriminating in such a way.  I am very interested to see how this turns out.

There are several companies capitalizing off of these new revelations about eHarmony.  You have to love American’s money loving mentality.  I can’t hate though, these companies are basically making themselves the forerunners for online dating services open to everyone.
