My American Idol Rant

Most of my family and friends remember a time when I wouldn’t miss an American Idol episode. I wouldn’t take phone calls, texts, emails… nothing (this is very rare lol).
Well this season has been totally different. Ever since the audition episodes, I haven’t really been feelin’ Idol. Usually at the beginning of the show, there are a couple of contestants I kind of connect with and I genuinely take interest in their progression (or lack there of) on the show. I can’t say that for this season’s bunch. They just seem so… how can I put it? BLAH!
Sure there are two contestants from the “area” still in the running to win, but really no one really does it for me. What irks me is the fact that there are at least two individuals still on the show, who should have been voted off weeks ago—Haley Scarnato and Sanjaya Malakar (I will admit that I am a bit jealous of his hair lol). Irking me even further, is that Haley and Sanjaya both realize they have no place on this show. You can’t tell me that they don’t realize the only reason they are still on the show is because of their looks and/or personality.
If it isn’t bad enough that these two realize they can’t sing, they are milking their “popularity” for all that its worth! Each week they watch talented singers get voted off, instead of them; they should be ashamed of themselves! This show is about singing and quite frankly I don’t think they are playing fair lol.
Haley continues to wear booty shorts because of her “great legs” (Simon made it a point to tell her this) and Sanjaya is milking this hair thing and “cute” personality for as long as he can. The ratings for American Idol have hit a low and I would think that Haley and Sanjaya are both contributing factors. This competition is no longer about singing and in my opinion the credibility of the show is relying on the outcome of this season.
What will happen if Sanjaya wins American Idol? His talent level doesn’t compare to that of past winners—Kelly Clarkson, Fantasia, Reuben Studdard or Carrie Underwood.
So before the comments start rolling in, I am fully aware that the voting is ultimately up to “America”, but give me a break. America is clearly tone deaf, I’m annoyed and American Idol sucks this season.
