Diary of the Bougie Broad

Life through the eyes of a young, quirky, intelligent, bougie broad.

Bougie.  Snobby.  Bratty.  Spoiled.  Uppity.  Pretentious.  Stuck up.  Snotty.  Self-centered.  Vain.  Conceited.  Sadiddy.  Bitchy.  Selfish.  Yes I have heard them all.  Do these words truly describe me? Not so much.  But either way, these words and many others, have shaped my thinking, how I see the world, and how I live my life.  My blog entries are not meant to be deep, educational, or life changing.  Rather just thought provoking.  I want to foster conversation (good or bad).  Thank you for gracing me with your presence (or should you be thanking me...hmmmm... just kidding!)

Another black life is lost at the hands of the police…

So last night (Sunday, November 26 around10:30 p.m.) while watching the Fox News channel, they devoted a segment to the tragic slaying of a groom in Queens.  There were 50 shots fired (seven officers were involved, five officers fired their weapons and one officer fired more than 30 times), the 23-year old groom was killed and there were two other men injured.

Debating the issue was a black, male prosecutor (not sure if he was the prosecutor on this particular case) and a defense attorney discussing the incident from both sides.  One thing said by the prosecutor infuriated me.  He said something to effect of “…only one person was killed.”  As if to say that out of 50 shots, only one person being killed is okay or that it could have been worse.  I was so pissed off by this comment and couldn’t believe that comment came out of the mouth of a black man.  Even he knew he made a mistake once that came out of his mouth; you could see him become visibly flustered.

I am so sick of seeing black men being slain at the hands of the police.  The sad thing is the police keep getting off the hook.  In this case, they are stating that the officers believed there was a weapon in the car.  Of course they found no weapon.  No wonder our people, especially black men, are so distrustful of the police—they have reason to question “authority”.

I just don’t understand the logic of these officers which leads me to believe there was no logic involved, instead hatred and the abuse of power.  Since when did hitting a police car become grounds for shooting people?  Even if the groom and others in the car were intoxicated, that’s a DUI charge.  None of the reports have stated that a weapon was pulled on cops.  So far the reports state that they police suspected there was a weapon in the vehicle.  In my opinion, that’s a load of crap.

Regardless of what really happened, a life has been taken, two others have been injured, and family and friends are now mourning the loss of a loved one.  It is very sad.

Living in NY I've heard much more about the topic because its been all over the media. Allegedly one of the people in the party was suspected in some crime of sorts, so all of the police were undercover. Picture this: you and your friends are getting into your car and a man with a gun comes up to you with it pointed at you. Would you have pulled off? I surely would if I wasn't scared frozen. I've heard radio interview after radio interview asking the NYPD the same question. What is their answer? "The officer identified himself as NYPD." Of course all the officers are saying that they identified themselves; however we cannot ask those parties in the car. Why? Because they are either dead or hospitalized. Fortunately, a brave eye witness went on record stating that they did not do such a thing.

Now the NYPD is also stating their is a mystery person who ran off. This person is the one with the gun. Well, if he ran off, Why shoot at the car? HE WASN'T IN iT! IF he even existed, where is he, what's his name, and did ANYONE go try to find him?

Lastly, Ed Lover made a great point to one of the police officers. If you see your partner/fellow officers shooting, but you see noone else shooting back at them - why shoot? Police officers should be trained enough to identify whether or not a suspect is shooting back. Not one officer was even nicked by a bullet. Because there was no gun on the groom and his party.

My condolensces go out to the groom, his party, and their families. I too am tired of all of this violence. These are the people who are supposed to serve and protect us. How can I feel safe? Is it that they are so threatened by the Black community that things like this happen? So sad.

        Dear Tia,

Thank you for responding!  Being that you are in NYC you do get to hear more about what is going on with this terrible incident.  I am glad to hear that the eye witness is speaking out and telling the truth.  Because you are right, the other witness are either dead or in the hospital, unable to talk.

And I never thought about what Ed Lover stated.  But he's right, why aren't any of the officers injured by gunfire?  If there was no one returning fire, why the hell did one officer alone fire off 50 rounds?

Be safe up there girlie!  I will def keep you in my prayers.  Maybe I don't wanna move to NYC after all...
