Life through the eyes of a young, quirky, intelligent, bougie broad.
Bougie. Snobby. Bratty. Spoiled. Uppity. Pretentious. Stuck up. Snotty. Self-centered. Vain. Conceited. Sadiddy. Bitchy. Selfish. Yes I have heard them all. Do these words truly describe me? Not so much. But either way, these words and many others, have shaped my thinking, how I see the world, and how I live my life. My blog entries are not meant to be deep, educational, or life changing. Rather just thought provoking. I want to foster conversation (good or bad). Thank you for gracing me with your presence (or should you be thanking me...hmmmm... just kidding!)
So basically Michael Richards gave what he called an “apology” on David Letterman last night. In my opinion, he has hurt himself even further. It would be one thing if he had honestly thought his remarks were funny; people would have shook their heads and felt sorry for his poor, ignorant behind. But by him apologizing and acknowledging that his remarks were wrong and that he was going into a “rage”, proves that there is definitely some hate deep (well, clearly not so deep) within him.
Now I want you to look at the below clip of his “apology”.He looks crazy.Look at his body language; not only is this man a racist, he is crazy too.
Did he really just refer to us as Afro-Americans?Why are people laughing? He then goes on to say he is concerned about more hate, anger and rage coming through because of this… ummm yeah buddy, you are scared that someone is gonna whoop your ass.He should have stopped while he was ahead. He should have simply issued a statement because watching his “apology” is like watching a train wreck. The more he said the word “rage”, the more I am inclined to believe he is clearly a racist and bonkers.
And after watching the clip of his stand up show from Monday night, I finally pinpointed what really bothered me.It wasn’t the fact he called members of the audience “niggers”, rather the following line:
"Shut up! Fifty years ago we'd have you upside down with a fucking fork up your ass."
The minute this came out of his mouth everyone, White, Black, Hispanic, could then form an image of our people being lynched and hung from trees. This image is what did it for me.It is one thing to call someone out of their name, which makes people mad but can usually be shaken off.But to be forced to recall such a horrible time in our history is unacceptable and can not be apologized for.He knew better.
And poor Jerry Seinfeld is trying to help him out because he knows in the long run his money is going to get funny because of this; I wonder how many people will stop watching Seinfeld because of this.In my opinion, he’s done his “part” and he needs to separate himself from Richards unless he wants to be associated with him.
And finally, everyone is comparing Michael Richards’ racist tirade to Mel Gibson’s similar offense and what I think is funny is that Mel Gibson is calling for Michael Richards to be blacklisted from Hollywood… isn’t that the pot calling the kettle black?
What do you think? Is he racist, confused, crazy, all of the above? Please let me know if I am missing something.

Hi, I know this is a little late, but I wanted to comment. Also, I love your site (which I've just found). I think you're an intelligent, beautiful woman, who has some insightful thoughts to share!
About Michael Richards...personally, my friends and I think he's crazy...and an ass. Okay, I'm being much too nice. He greatly offends me...and I'm white and Jewish. He offends me more than Mel Gibson does. He may be crazy, but it's NO excuse for what he did.
My problem with both Richards and Gibson isn't how they feel. For both, I think it's very deep-rooted, and they'll never change. That part makes me sad, because both are completely closing their minds to others. They're missing out on some amazing human beings. I believe it's their right to feel the way they do, however terrible it is, but where they need to draw the line is where and how they say something about it.
The problem is, nobody can change the way they feel unless they WANT to. In the way that women who marry men thinking they'll miraculously "change" them (and amazingly, they never do!), both Richards and Gibson will have to do that themselves.
IMHO, whether or not they ultimately change isn't the issue, but if this is the way they truly feel, keep it behind closed doors. Say what you want about me, my friends, my people, whatever...hey, you don't have to like me...but if you're a public figure (like those two ignorant jerks - and once again, I'm being much too nice), keep your crazy mouth shut in public! Nobody wants to hear that crap.
I'm voting both of them off of MY island. ;D Reply to this
I am so sorry to have taken this long to respond to your comment. I'm glad you are diggin my site and I truly appreciate your comments so keep them coming!
That's interesting that Michael Richards offends you more than Mel Gibson... they both disgust me. I totally agree with you in that they have a right to feel the way they do; this is America. But it is a shame. Like you said, you don't have to like me, but you will respect me!
LOL @ "voting both of them off of MY island". Yeah they need to take a flying leap .
